1. Major Declaration
JI offers programs in Mechanical Engineering (ME) and Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE). Although students are asked to declare one of the two programs as their major when they apply for JI, they may choose to switch majors in the future. Irrespective of the intended major, all undergraduate students take the same core courses in the first two semesters. Students are required to declare majors in the Spring semester of their sophomore year. To be qualified for declaring a major, students must have completed the first year level Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics, Introduction to Engineering and Introduction to Computer & Programming with satisfactory grades and a cumulated GPA specified by individual programs.
2.Mechanical Engineering (ME)
The Mechanical Engineering (ME) major at the Joint Institute is designed to match the course progression and standards of the Mechanical Engineering department at UM’s College of Engineering. Lab resources, facilities support and some core training is provided by the outstanding ME School of SJTU.
3.Requirements of Major Declaration
The ME Program follows the rules of Joint Institute for program declaration. Students enrolled at the UM-SJTU JI who want to declare Mechanical Engineering as their major must have completed the following courses with satisfactory grades:
Math: Applied Series:Vv156, Vv255, and Vv256 or
Honor Series: Vv 186, Vv285, and Vv286
Physics: Vp140/141and Vp240/241 or
Equivalent Honor Series Vp160/141 and 260/241
Engr. Basics: Vg100, Vg101
NOTES: No decision will be made until the student has completed at least one full term at JI. Due to resource constraints, the JI may limit the number of students accepted into the ME major.
Outcomes of JI Undergraduate Degree
Graduates of the Institute’s undergraduate programs will have:
